SFUSD board approves several student expulsion agreements; closed-session settlements authorized

The San Francisco Unified School District Board of Education approved three stipulated expulsion agreements for separate high-school student matters during its June 11 meeting and reported out several closed-session settlements.

Board staff moved and commissioners seconded three expulsion agreements designated as 2023–2024 matters. Each motion passed on roll-call votes recorded by the board clerk: the first two motions passed with six ayes and one absence, and the third passed with seven ayes. The superintendent's office said the expulsions apply through the stated academic or calendar period indicated in each agreement.

During the closed-session report, staff said the board voted 6–0 with one member absent on multiple public-employee discipline matters and that Commissioner Sanchez approved a retirement agreement. The board also authorized district counsel to settle multiple Office of Administrative Hearings (OAH) matters, specifying that the district was permitted to pay up to the stipulated amounts in the cases described.

Board members recorded no public votes against the measures. Superintendent Wayne and staff said the votes and settlement authorities were the result of confidential personnel and litigation discussions conducted in closed session and were now being reported out as the law requires.

The board paused briefly after the closed-session report to handle routine business and then resumed its public agenda, including lengthy hearings on the LCAP and the superintendent's proposed budget and fiscal stabilization plan. The board's actions on expulsions and settlements are reflected in the meeting record and will be incorporated into official minutes and personnel files.
