The Abatement Appeals Board on Sept. 17 upheld an order of abatement for 360 Sanchez St, giving the property owner 90 days to obtain permits and complete corrective work for a deck that the department said exceeded the scope of the existing permit.
DBI staff reported the structure involved a deck built 18 feet above grade and that a permit filed in August had not progressed to final inspection. Kelton Finney of Bonza Engineering, representing the owner, said planning sign-offs were in place and that the permit could likely be issued within about a week; he told the board he expected to complete the process and hire a contractor as soon as permits were pulled.
Commissioners debated a reasonable timeline; one commissioner proposed a 60-day window for pulling a permit, while others favored a 90-day abeyance to allow procurement of a contractor and completion of work. The board adopted a motion to uphold the order, hold it in abeyance for 90 days to allow the permit to be pulled and work to be completed, and to assess fees as charged. The vote was unanimous.
The record shows the department’s current fee related to this item is $965. Commissioners declined to waive the fee entirely but discussed possible reductions; the motion as carried left fees in place.
