DBI reports steep reduction in backlog; inspectors completed nearly 4,800 building inspections in latest month

DBI's code‑enforcement staff reported on July 16 that building inspections totaled 4,807 for the last month and that complaint responses generally occurred within 24–72 hours. Staff provided additional enforcement metrics including the number of complaints that resulted in notices of violation and the number of cases referred to director's hearings.
"Building inspections performed for the last month's for building was 4,807," a DBI code‑enforcement representative reported. The staff noted 263 complaints received and that the department had reduced a backlog of more than 200,000 building complaints over five years to fewer than 400 remaining cases.
Staff also reported routine inspection and abatement numbers and said that director's hearings and orders of abatement remain part of the enforcement toolkit. Commissioners thanked staff for the work in addressing the backlog while pressing for continued attention to timely complaint resolution.
