The Building Inspection Commission voted unanimously on Jan. 16 to award a contract to Alliance Resources to conduct an executive search for a permanent director of the Department of Building Inspection. President McCarthy moved to select Alliance Resources; Commissioner Melgar seconded and the roll-call vote was recorded as unanimous.
Commissioners said experience with firms that have building-and-planning networks was a key selection criterion. Deputy Director Pamela Levin said Alliance guaranteed that if the recommended candidate is hired from outside the city and leaves of their own volition within the first year, the firm will conduct a replacement search for administrative cost only; the guarantee does not apply to candidates who already work for the city and then leave.
The commission directed staff to work with the human-resources department to finalize contract terms and to return with a detailed scope of work and schedule. No public comments were offered during the item's comment period.
The commission considered three firms: (1) Alliance Resources (selected); (2) Bob Murray & Associates; and (3) Ralph Andersen & Associates.
Outcome: motion carried unanimous; staff to negotiate contract specifics and return required documentation to Human Resources for execution.
