Parents, community urge SFUSD to rescind non-reelect notices and protect local educators

Naomi Laguana, PAC chair, and Michelle Jacques Menegas, PAC coordinator, described outreach and recruitment efforts and said the PAC is working to make membership more representative after last month's nomination controversy. Many public comments called for transparency in hiring and dismissal practices and for the board to prioritize retention of teachers of color.
Speakers also linked reopening discussions to staffing and equity concerns: some asked how the district could reopen while not having vaccinated all staff, while others argued that losing community-based educators weakens supports for students returning after a traumatic year.
Board members acknowledged the comments and agreed to direct staff to follow up with parents and advisory committees on specific follow-up items, including investigating the non-reelect and improving communications and translation at advisory meetings.
