DBI outlines permit-tracking timeline, Qmatic rollout and addressing cleanup
Summary
DBI told commissioners it is negotiating a permit-tracking vendor with a projected 24-month implementation (target Sept. 2013), reported Qmatic customer-queue testing to be operational by the next meeting, and said the city addressing system may go live Aug. 15 to fix unassigned addresses ahead of the new permit system.

DBI staff updated the commission on several customer-service and IT initiatives. On the permit-tracking system, DBI said vendor negotiations began June 1 and the contract contemplates a 24-month implementation; if the project starts in September the department expects an approximate September 2013 go-live. Planning and DBI are closely coordinated on specifications.
On in-person customer service, DBI said the Qmatic queuing system has been tested and will be staffed by recently hired clerks; Qmatic will use screens to call numbers (DMV/tax-collector style) and route customers to the correct service station. DBI expects Qmatic to be operational by the next commission meeting.
DBI also described coordination with the Department of Technology on a citywide addressing system planned to go live August 15; the effort will clean up about 10,000 unassigned addresses arising from unit conversions and prepare the address base for the new permit system.
