Board approves second amendment to 2020–21 instructional calendar to correct errors

The San Francisco Unified School District Board of Education unanimously approved a second amended 2020–21 instructional calendar on Oct. 6 to correct errors in the previously posted calendar.
Chief of Labor Relations Greg John presented the background: staff believed an earlier calendar miscounted instructional days in January (should be 18) and the first amended calendar presented in June was itself incorrect. The second-amended calendar sets Jan. 4 as a school-site holiday, lists 18 instructional days in January, describes the fall recess as a Thanksgiving holiday and shows the last day of school as June 2, 2021.
A PTA representative told the board she was pleased with the calendar correction. Commissioner Collins asked that grading-period end dates be visible on the public academic calendar; the board asked staff to correct and make those dates available online.
Roll call recorded six ayes for the calendar amendment and the board adopted the corrected calendar.
