Student delegates and PAC outline youth engagement plans and town halls on student-assignment redesign

Student delegates Siobhan Hines Foster and Correa Almanza told the board on Oct. 6 that the Student Advisory Council (SAC) established monthly committee breakout groups and elected chairs to oversee social justice, environmental, health and student-support committees, and that SAC plans to work with the nonprofit When Youth Vote to boost youth voter registration and engagement.
Michelle Jacques Venegas, coordinator of the Parent Advisory Council (PAC), and PAC chair Naomi Laguana reviewed PAC priorities: educating new PAC members about district structures and funding (including the Local Control and Accountability Plan), coordinating joint advisory feedback on the Learning Continuity Plan, supporting nominations for advisory seats and recruiting a broader parent base. PAC said applications are available at pacsf.org and noted translation and interpretation support.
PAC announced informational town halls connected to the student-assignment redesign: Oct. 27 (English with translation), Oct. 28 (Cantonese), Oct. 29 (Spanish), and Nov. 7 (English) as part of the district enrollment fair. PAC said the town halls will be primarily informational to help families understand the policy staff will propose to the board in December.
Why this matters: The SAC and PAC activities reflect district efforts to engage students and families in policy and implementation work on student assignment and the LCAP. PAC requested clearer tracking and accountability for implementation of community-focused resolutions and described the need for more parent participation and language access.
What happens next: PAC will continue recruiting members and coordinating with board and staff; the board requested staff to provide tracking documents outlining implementation status for prior resolutions.
