SFUSD highlights major COVID-19 donations, Warriors announce $125,000 gift

San Francisco Unified School District leaders thanked corporate and foundation partners for contributions to the district’s COVID-19 response and student supports, and a representative of the Golden State Warriors announced a $125,000 gift to SFUSD.

President Sanchez opened the meeting by thanking donors who have supported meals, devices and technology hotspots during school closures, calling the support "critical" as the district serves families through the pandemic. The district cited a large gift from Salesforce.org that the meeting transcript lists as $9,000,000 and other contributors to the Spark Foundation and COVID-19 response funds.

Golden State Warriors staff David Lee said the Warriors Community Foundation, in partnership with the Hewlett Packard Enterprise Foundation, would make a $125,000 contribution to SFUSD. "On behalf of the Voyage Community Foundation and Hewlett Packard Enterprise, we're excited to share the news that the San Francisco Unified School District will be granted $125,000," Lee said; the superintendent thanked the Warriors and their partners for recognizing teachers.

Superintendent Matthews described how donated funds are being used: to support meal distribution, to purchase devices and hotspots for students, and to fund other COVID-19 relief activities. Matthews also reported distribution numbers the district provided during the meeting: roughly 12,400 Chromebooks and 3,700 mobile hotspots had been distributed to students in grades 3–12, and the district reported that by the end of the day 99% of technology requests submitted by families had been fulfilled.

The board did not take formal action on donations at the meeting; the district said it will make materials available online, and staff encouraged potential partners to consult the SFUSD COVID‑19 resource and RFQ pages for information on how to apply to support reopening and recovery work.
