The Building Inspection Commission voted to suspend Rule 2, Section 2.03 so it could elect officers at a special meeting on Feb. 2, 2010, then unanimously elected Mel Murphy as president and Vice President Hetchanova as vice president.
Commissioner Levitt moved to suspend the rule; John Maleman from the city attorney dvised that suspending the rule for this meeting was permissible and that rule language could be revised in a future package. Commissioners discussed that the suspension was sought because there would be no regular February meeting.
Following the suspension, Commissioner Walker nominated Mel Murphy for a second term; the nomination was seconded and commissioners spoke in support of Murphy nd his leadership during staffing reductions and ongoing seismic and tenant-safety projects. A roll-call vote confirmed Murphy unanimously. Commissioners then nominated and voted unanimously to reelect Vice President Hetchanova.
The votes were taken by roll call and both elections were unanimous.
