They reported a current case count of 165 students in the program and explained that fear of immigration enforcement and changes in federal rules have complicated recruitment and eligibility. "We have space for whomever can qualify," a program representative said, adding that outreach relies heavily on one‑on‑one contact and long‑standing community ties.
Staff discussed referrals to community‑based organizations, translations and the program’s effort to handhold families through enrollment and service access. Commissioners asked how many students were identified through the district’s Education Placement Center; staff said "very few" come from that screening process and that most enrollments resulted from active outreach.
Commissioners also asked about plans for trauma‑informed supports; staff said they intend to contract with a bilingual marriage and family therapist (MFT) familiar with the community to provide direct services and assistance with families.
Board members thanked the team and requested follow‑up information on program capacity, funding and a list of community partners.
