The San Francisco Unified School District board on Aug. 27 conducted routine business including the approval of minutes and the consent calendar and issued a public readout of closed-session actions.
The board moved and seconded to approve the minutes of the Aug. 13 regular meeting; a roll-call vote on the minutes recorded "7 ayes." The consent calendar was then moved, seconded and approved by roll call (recorded as 7 ayes). No consent items were removed for first reading.
In a post-recess public readout following a closed session, the board announced that by a vote of seven ayes it approved proposed settlement agreements in employee-discipline matters and gave direction to general counsel in the matter captioned "SFUSD versus BS." The board did not provide further details about the terms of the settlements in open session.
Other procedural business included the referral of several draft board policies (on dress/grooming, health and HIV/AIDS prevention instruction, high-school graduation requirements and supports for pregnant/parenting students) to committee for first reading and the scheduling of multiple committee meetings in September and October.
Next steps: the sunshine proposal to UESF was presented and scheduled for board consideration on Sept. 10, 2019; staff indicated additional committee work and public updates will follow as items move through first reading and committee referral.
