Fernando Aguilar, executive director of Creative Arts Charter, and parents and board members highlighted program strengths, unionization with UESF and the schools compliance with SELPA. The superintendent introduced a first-reading item (SP19115) authorizing staff to grant or deny the renewal petition; the board moved to refer the matter to the curriculum and budget committees for further review.
Board members received community testimony and the superintendent's referral; no final decision on the charter renewal was taken on Jan. 15. The referral sends the petition into the committee review process where staff analysis, public input and fiscal considerations will be examined before the board takes a future vote.
