SAN FRANCISCO — A large group of Visitation Valley Elementary School parents used the meeting’s general public comment period on Dec. 11 to describe chronic staffing problems, safety concerns and a breakdown in communication with school leadership.
Parents said nine staff left in one year, classes were frequently split or covered by substitutes, and some students reported not wanting to attend because they were being bullied. "My daughter doesn't wanna go to school," said one parent describing the impact on a second‑grade child. Several speakers asked the board for an independent audit of the school and for district action on recruiting and retaining bilingual family liaisons and stable teachers.
Board members and staff said they would refer speakers to appropriate staff for follow‑up and noted the district’s role in monitoring staffing and student safety. The superintendent asked staff to follow up with parents after the meeting.
Parents emphasized urgency: many said they had lodged complaints with site staff and the assistant superintendent without a satisfactory response and urged a faster district intervention.
