Board President Mendoza McDonald announced her resignation from the office of president at the Sept. 25 regular meeting and delivered farewell remarks reflecting on 12 years on the board and on partnerships with the city, philanthropic funders and labor. She noted accomplishments including passage of local measures, fundraising relationships and partnerships that she said improved district capacity.
Per board rules, Vice President Stevon Cook assumed the office of president until the January 2019 election of officers. The board then opened nominations for vice president for the remainder of 2018; President Cook nominated Commissioner Mark Sanchez. With no other nominations the board declared Sanchez elected by acclamation.
Mendoza McDonald thanked staff, colleagues and community partners and asked the board to continue building city‑district partnerships. Commissioners offered tributes and expressed appreciation for Mendoza McDonald’s leadership. The board did not reverse or modify any prior action in connection with the resignation; the changes were procedural and internal.
