SFUSD board approves PAC appointments, consent calendar, expulsions and multiple personnel contracts

The San Francisco Unified School District Board on Aug. 14 approved several routine and personnel items, ratified disciplinary agreements and directed staff on pending litigation and settlements.

Appointments and consent: The board approved two appointments to the Parent Advisory Council — Naomi Laguna (McKinley Elementary parent) and Sandy Stringfellow (parent in the Japanese bilingual program at Clarendon Elementary) — after a presentation by the PAC coordinator about recruitment needs for Pacific Islander and English-language-learner family representation. The consent calendar passed after staff noted one correction (a consultant fee should read $60,000, not $50,000) and one withdrawal.

Disciplinary actions and personnel contracts: After a closed session, the board reconvened and approved stipulated expulsion agreements for two high-school students, each with a one-year expulsion term and conditions for potential reduction contingent upon completing rehabilitation plans. The board also ratified employment contracts for multiple executives, supervisors, directors, principals, assistant principals and program administrators and authorized payment up to stipulated amounts in several settlement matters related to litigation and grievances; votes on these items were unanimous.

What this means: These actions implement administrative and personnel decisions required for the district to operate at the start of the school year. The expulsions were stipulated agreements rather than formal hearings; the contracts and settlement authorizations were ratified after closed-session review.
