DBI director reports RFP for MIS, budget outlook and seismic action-plan progress

DBI staff reported that an MIS RFP will be released in the next month or two, the department expects to use about $3 million of reserves by year-end, and the Community Action Plan for Seismic Safety is moving forward with an ATC contract expected to run 24 months.
At the Nov. 21 meeting the Department of Building Inspection provided routine operational updates. Staff said MIS personnel are assessing options for the permit-tracking system and plan to issue an RFP within weeks to compare in‑house changes with off‑the‑shelf alternatives.
On finance, staff reported continued expenditure monitoring and projected use of roughly $3,000,000 of reserves before year-end, less than earlier estimates. The director said hiring is being limited to essential positions to help control costs.
On interdepartmental coordination and the Business Process Review, staff said the final BPR report should be ready in about one to two weeks, with a steering-committee meeting targeted for the week of Dec. 10 and a commission discussion at the December meeting. For the Community Action Plan for Seismic Safety, staff described a 15–20 person advisory group and a contract with ATC that anticipates a 24‑month timeline for deliverables, with work expected to begin in the first quarter of the following year.
