The San Francisco Unified School District board on April 10 approved a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with United Educators of San Francisco (UESF) that lays out compensation and program commitments contingent on passage of a district parcel tax known as Proposition G.
Carmelo Scarlato, the district's chief of labor relations, presented the MOU, which the record ties to Proposition G and related negotiations with UESF. United Educators' leadership described the agreement as directing an estimated 75 percent of parcel-tax revenue to educator compensation and benefits, including a roughly 7 percent base-salary increase for represented members if the tax passes. The MOU also includes targeted support for identified schools, professional-development protections or restorations and expanded dependent-care benefits.
United Educators' executive vice president addressed the board in support, calling the MOU "very important" and urging community backing for Prop G. Board members conducted a roll-call vote after public comment and the MOU was approved.
The MOU's fiscal effects are contingent on voter approval of the parcel tax; the speaker for UESF encouraged board and community outreach to secure passage in June.
