Commission authorizes director—s membership in state and national code bodies; discusses moving meetings to Wednesdays

The Building Inspection Commission voted on April 16 to authorize the director to continue participation in outside professional bodies, including the California Building Standards Commission, the International Code Council (ICC) Education Committee and the International Accreditation Services accreditation committee. The director described the anticipated time commitment for each body and said meeting frequency is generally limited to occasional multi-day sessions and conference calls.

A motion to allow the director—s continued participation was made, seconded and approved by voice vote. The transcript does not record a roll-call tally; commissioners voiced "Aye" and the motion passed.

Separately, commissioners discussed changing the commission's regular meetings from the first and third Mondays to a single monthly meeting on the third Wednesday, citing television-control-room availability, room scheduling and the desire to reduce Monday conflicts. Staff said televising is most feasible on Wednesdays between about 09:30 and 14:00 (Room 416 availability was discussed). Commissioners generally favored a third-Wednesday meeting (suggested 9:00 start) and directed staff to place a formal agenda item with specific times and dates for the next meeting, with a target implementation in June if approved.

No binding change to the meeting schedule was made at this session; commissioners asked staff to return with formal agenda language and to check charter/monthly-meeting requirements before a final vote.
