Building Inspection Commission reelects Walker and Lee; in closed session votes to select new DBI director

The Building Inspection Commission on Feb. 5 reselected its leadership and moved several internal governance items before voting in closed session to select a new director for the Department of Building Inspection.
Commissioners nominated and approved President Walker and Frank Lee for another term as president and vice president by voice vote after a motion and second. Following that, the commission appointed members to standing committees, including the litigation committee (Romero, Walker, and Murphy) and a BEC recruitment committee (Commissioners Theriault, Grubb and Lee) to review and recommend appointments to advisory bodies.
On Item 9, the commission approved DBI's semiannual building valuation update, which DBI staff said is indexed to Marshall & Swift data. Commissioners were told the fee tables remain unchanged but that some permits may fall into higher fee categories if valuation changes cross thresholds.
The commission then convened a closed session on the public‑employee appointment of DBI director. On reconvening, the board disclosed that it had "unanimously voted and chosen a new director," but said a few details remained to be worked out and the identity would be announced once arrangements were finalized.
President Walker thanked the commissioners and staff for their work and asked DBI to return with budget and staffing follow‑ups in subsequent meetings.
