Board approves tentative labor agreement, backs parks letter; student-assignment resolution referred to committee

The San Francisco Board of Education on Oct. 24 approved several actions during its regular meeting before adjourning to closed session.
The board approved a tentative agreement between SFUSD and Local 261 after a motion was called for and a roll-call vote was recorded. The board then voted to authorize a letter of support to the California State Parks Foundation and partners for fundraising and restoration work at Candlestick Point State Recreation Area; a board member explained the choice to take the vote in an open meeting for transparency. The board also introduced Resolution 710-24 SP1 (revisions to board policy 05/2001 on student assignment) and referred it to the Committee of the Whole for first reading on Nov. 7.
On routine business, the consent calendar was called, a correction to an amendment request was noted, and the calendar was approved by roll call. Board members who spoke on the floor thanked staff and community partners for ongoing projects and committee work, including updates on school-landmark nominations, the SFUSD Art Center, teacher-educator housing projects, and RFPs for school sites.
The meeting then moved to closed session. No further votes or policy adoptions on the student-assignment resolution were recorded at the Oct. 24 meeting; the referral sends the item back to committee for additional staff work and discussion.
