SFUSD board adopts resolution banning electronic cigarettes and vapor devices in district policy

Donna Blanchard, supervisor of school health programs, read Resolution 144‑22 (Superintendent's Proposal No. 1), asking the Board of Education to amend the district policy on the use of tobacco, alcohol and other drugs to explicitly prohibit the use of products containing nicotine such as electronic cigarettes and all vapor‑emitting electronic devices with or without nicotine content, including electronic hookah that mimic tobacco products.
Blanchard noted the item had been heard in committee on April 16 with a positive recommendation. The superintendent and staff reported no public speakers had signed up for the item that evening. After limited board comment, the board took a roll‑call vote and recorded seven ayes in favor. The resolution, recorded as Resolution 144‑22 in the meeting materials, was approved and will be reflected in the district policy updates.
The motion and roll call established the formal board action to change district policy to include electronic vapor devices in the district prohibition on tobacco‑like products.
