Kevin Truitt reviewed outcome data: new EXCEL participants attended an average of 2.16 more school days per year; high school participants showed an average increase of five additional days; middle‑school new participants averaged a 0.384 point GPA increase and high‑school participants averaged a 0.183 point increase compared with the prior year. Truitt also reported that African American EXCEL participants saw notable decreases in chronic absenteeism and improved reading‑level outcomes tied to incremental EXCEL participation.
Staff reported annual after‑school fiscal year funding at roughly $15–16 million across multiple sources (ACES, 21st Century, DCYF match) and said nearly all funds are used annually (staff cited roughly $40,000 unspent across the portfolio). The presentation listed ongoing initiatives: a comprehensive online enrollment application, an equitable co‑payment framework under development, pilots to consolidate providers on single sites, and shared‑space agreements to reduce waiting lists.
Board members asked for timelines and metrics on consolidation, capacity expansion and the equitable fee schedule; staff committed to provide a timeline and additional data on provider consolidation progress.
