Board approves minutes and policy revision; personnel appointments held for review

San Francisco — During its regular meeting the San Francisco Unified School District board completed routine business including approval of prior minutes, a policy revision, and a consent calendar while flagging several personnel items for additional review.

The board moved and seconded approval of the minutes for the Aug. 26, 2014 meeting; a roll call vote recorded ayes with one abstention from the student delegate and the motion carried. Later the board considered a proposed revision to board policy (148‑26 SP2, a revision to BP 1342 on community relations and uniform complaints) and held a roll call vote approving the revision as noticed by board staff.

Clerk and staff announced a correction to a personnel/contract entry (agenda page 64): the consultant name was clarified as "Regents of the University of California, San Francisco Science and Health Education Partnership." Commissioners also discussed personnel items listed under F1–F15 and several members requested that those items be pulled for discussion at the Personnel and Labor committee and at a future board meeting to allow a fuller report on staffing, vacancies, and hiring numbers.

At read-out of closed session the board reported it had approved three employment contracts by a vote of seven ayes: one principal, one program administrator and one supervisor. President Feuer adjourned the meeting in memory of Latrell Shaw, a former Mission High student.

Next steps: personnel items pulled from the consent calendar will be scheduled for committee review and additional board discussion before ratification.
