SFUSD board adopts 2013–14 instructional calendar including forced-closure days

The San Francisco Unified School District Board of Education voted unanimously on Jan. 8 to adopt the 2013–14 instructional calendar. Staff explained the calendar included 179.5 school days and accounted for 1.5 forced-closure (furlough) days negotiated in a two-year agreement with United Educators.
Assistant/Designee Ruiz presented the calendar and told commissioners that the last day of school and a June professional-development day were counted as the forced-closure days. Staff said the final calendar would be posted on the district website the day after the meeting if approved. The board approved the calendar by roll call.
Commissioners asked clarifying questions on forced-closure days and timing; staff confirmed the dates and noted forced-closure days could be revisited based on district finances.
