SFUSD board adopts Board Policy 6020 to align parental involvement with federal program audit findings

The San Francisco Unified School District Board of Education voted on Jan. 8 to adopt Board Policy 6020, titled "Parent Involvement," to conform with current law and with recommendations from a federal program monitoring audit conducted in April 2012. Director Jill Hughendyke of State and Federal Programs presented the recommendation and explained the policy is intended to bring the district into compliance.
Board members indicated the curriculum committee had reviewed the policy and given a positive recommendation; Commissioner questions focused on what changes were required to conform with law. Staff said the district did not previously have a consolidated board policy by that title aligned with NCLB requirements, and the new policy fills that gap.
The board recorded a roll call vote and approved the policy with unanimous support from present members. No public speakers were registered for the item.
