Board honors World Savvy exchange program and student delegates bound for Bangladesh

The San Francisco Unified School District Board of Education on Dec. 11 adopted a resolution recognizing World Savvy for its youth engagement programs that promote global competency. Commissioner Mendoza introduced the resolution, which notes World Savvy’s history since 2002, its educator professional development and fully funded exchange opportunities.
World Savvy staff and students described the international program that will send selected students and educators to Bangladesh. Laura Clivens, International Program Manager, said more than 100 students applied for 30 spots and that three SFUSD students were selected: Dajanique Madlock (Balboa High School, not present), Ashoka Alvarez (Lowell High School), and Stephanie Warrz (Independence High School); an educator, Jasper Puvao (Mission High School), also was selected. Staff previewed a four‑week itinerary including host‑family stays, time in the mangrove forest, and service learning; they noted meetings with community leaders and Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus are planned.
The board congratulated the students and World Savvy staff and voted to adopt the resolution by roll call.
