Independent auditor reports no findings in SFUSD 2011–12 audit; board praises staff work

An independent auditor told the San Francisco Unified School District Board of Education on Jan. 8 that the district’s 2011–12 audit produced no findings. Leonard Dana, partner at Verrnick, Trine & Day, said the firm issued unqualified reports for financial statements and compliance and did not propose audit adjustments.
"We have no findings," Dana told the board, noting prior years had multiple comments and that district staff worked to implement recommended changes. Board members and the superintendent praised the finance and program staff for the result; the room applauded the auditor’s report.
Superintendent Carranza complimented staff for addressing time-and-effort reporting and after-school program paperwork issues that previously generated audit comments. Auditor Dana said follow-up audits on the parcel tax and the bond program were underway.
The board took the audit presentation under discussion as a severed consent-item and completed a roll call on the related consent actions; members publicly thanked staff and auditors for the work that produced an unqualified audit report.
