Board commends Support for Families of Children with Disabilities on 30th anniversary

The Board of Education recognized Support for Families of Children with Disabilities at its Sept. 25 meeting with a resolution marking the organization’s 30th anniversary.
Commissioner Marassee read the resolution into the record, citing the group’s parent‑to‑parent support, multilingual services and the parent mentor program that trained English‑ and Spanish‑speaking mentors. "Since 1982, Support for Families of Children with Disabilities has offered information, education, and parent to parent support free of charge to families of children with any kind of disability or special health care need in San Francisco," the resolution recited.
Board members thanked the organization for sustained partnership with the district. A representative from Support for Families — who said she had formerly been a parent using the organization’s services — told the board the recognition made families "feeling hopeful" and praised district efforts to support students with disabilities.
The resolution was adopted with board commendations and will be celebrated at the organization’s event on Friday, Sept. 28.
