Board rules committee outlines multi-month rewrite of district policies

The San Francisco Board of Education received an update on Sept. 11 from the Rules, Policy and Legislative Committee about a broad effort to revise district policies.
Commissioner Winns said the committee completed the rules section (previously labeled P120) and is beginning work on the 1000 series of general policies, which cover community partnerships and advisory committees. Committee members said staff will review proposed policy sections and return recommendations; they also advised referring sections on facilities and finance to Building & Grounds and Budget committees, respectively, for subject-matter review.
Board leadership asked staff liaisons to review materials in advance and suggested committees take phased information items to work through the lengthy revisions over multiple meetings. No formal policy adoptions occurred at the session; the work is iterative and expected to return to the full board after committee review.
