The resolution referenced a June memorandum from the Department of Homeland Security and urged district support while acknowledging there is no separate federal or state funding attached to DACA assistance.
Community advocates, students and nonprofit legal service providers described strong demand for services and cautioned about high private fees for assistance; one speaker estimated approximately 4,000 potential applicants in San Francisco and noted the federal filing fee for employment authorization was $465. Groups including Asian Law Caucus, Asian Pacific Islander youth coalitions, La Raza Centro Legal and Catholic Charities described plans to run free clinics and requested district help with outreach, interpreters and facility access.
Board members discussed coordination with city offices and community partners and agreed to post forum information and identify a district point of contact. The Board approved the resolution by unanimous roll call and thanked community partners.
