Board elects 2012 officers and readopts rules at first meeting

The San Francisco Board of Education began its first regular meeting of 2012 by formally readopting its rules and electing officers for the year.
Under Article 2, Section 1.1.1, the board moved and seconded the annual readoption of board rules (P‑one 120). A roll call recorded the board's approval (seven ayes).
Nominations for president followed. Commissioner LaRocque nominated Commissioner Norman Yee for board president; with no further nominations the board closed nominations and elected Yee by acclamation. The board then opened nominations for vice president; Commissioner Balazs nominated Rachel Norton and the board elected Norton (voice/roll call) to serve as vice president for 2012.
Norman Yee and other new officers offered brief remarks thanking colleagues and outlining early priorities. The meeting then proceeded to committee and agenda business.
