The San Francisco Board of Education on Jan. 10 approved a template for interdistrict attendance agreements and authorized the superintendent to enter such agreements with neighboring school districts, citing recent state law changes.
Darlene Lim read the request into the record, explaining the board would approve agreements already signed by neighboring districts and authorize a template for future use. Angie Miller (district staff) explained a law change now prevents annual permit renewal and allows revocation only when a contract is in place with the sending district; to restore previous flexibility the district is collecting contracts with neighboring districts including Oakland Unified and West Contra Costa Unified.
Board members asked staff for more data on interdistrict transfers; district staff reported the district currently approves "over a thousand" K–12 interdistrict permits incoming to SFUSD but did not have the exact outgoing count on hand and agreed to provide it. Commissioners also asked for a list of sending districts and school‑level placements.
The board approved the agreements by roll call (7 ayes). Staff committed to return with counts of incoming/outgoing students and the schools where they are placed.
