Residents say drop-off chaos on Bartlett Street endangers students after campus merger

Multiple residents asked the board to help address hazardous drop-off and pick-up conditions on Bartlett Street after the Yerba Buena and Horace Mann campuses merged for the school year.
Sean Flanagan, a Mission District resident, said there was no plan for drop-off zones when the campuses merged and described cars double-parking, abandoned vehicles at night, dark poorly lit conditions and vehicles blocking the street: "It's a sheer nightmare." He urged enforcement and a short-term plan and suggested moving the pick-up zone to Valencia Street.
Dana Veil, another Bartlett Street neighbor, estimated enrollment had grown from roughly 200 to about 600 students with the campus change and said the situation has produced sideswipes and dangerous driving maneuvers. Veil said the school's security guard lacks sufficient resources to provide continuous enforcement and asked the board to work with city agencies, including police, to establish enforcement and a safer drop-off plan.
Board members agreed to coordinate with traffic safety staff and the Mission Station captain and to contact city partners about short-term enforcement.
