The San Francisco Unified School District board on Aug. 9 approved a Local Educational Agency (LEA) Plan addendum required after a program-improvement designation affecting court and community schools that receive Title I funds.
Janet Schultz and Gary Kaufman explained the addendum is largely aligned with the district’s LEA work; Schultz said section 6 includes the Title III sanctions work the board approved earlier in the spring. Staff described the addendum as an action plan to be implemented immediately, with assistant superintendent Schultz, principals and the assigned staff responsible for monitoring.
Deputy Superintendent (speaker) noted that Secretary Duncan had authorized waivers for some districts in program improvement, which could alter the timeframe, but staff said the plan as written envisages about a three-year implementation if waivers are not granted. The board approved the addendum by roll call (six ayes).
