SAN FRANCISCO โ The San Francisco Board of Education voted to appoint Derrick Turner as its representative to the San Francisco Elections Commission, filling the remainder of a five-year term through Jan. 1, 2013.
Turner, who the board identified as the next-ranked candidate from a prior selection process, told trustees he planned to advocate for more secure, nonproprietary voting software and for programs to engage San Francisco high school students as poll workers. "I look forward to coming back and staying connected with the Board of Education and letting you guys know what it is that we're doing over there," Turner said.
The board's rules and policy committee conducted interviews of four applicants earlier; the board had previously appointed Malcolm Young to the position but accepted his resignation earlier this year. The appointment was moved, seconded and approved by roll call.
