The board adopted the calendar by roll call (7–0), and staff said they would hold an Augmented Budget Committee meeting on June 16 (6:00 p.m., boardroom) and a community budget workshop at James Lick Middle School on June 17 (6:30–8:00 p.m.). Budget materials and a PowerPoint summary will be posted on the district website; staff offered commissioners one‑on‑one briefings prior to the committee meeting.
On the Gateway waiver package, staff explained the waivers to allow alternative‑school funding, attendance counting and related rules so the program can operate jointly with City College. Commissioners asked detailed questions about average daily attendance (ADA) timing, immunization waivers and how City College’s FTE attendance method differs from SFUSD’s ADA reporting. Staff explained that if the program begins in fall 2009–10 the district could claim ADA for that year and—depending on state processing—receive related funds in subsequent fiscal cycles. Next steps: Staff will publish more detailed budget appendices on the website and return to the board on June 16 (augmented budget committee) and June 23 for further action on the recommended budget and waiver status.
