Board elects president and vice president by acclamation at organizational meeting

At its first regular meeting of 2009 the SFUSD Board of Education elected (by acclamation) a president and vice president; commissioners were sworn in and the board readopted procedural rules for the year.
The San Francisco Board of Education opened its first regular meeting of 2009 by swearing in newly elected and re‑elected commissioners and then conducting officer elections.
Superintendent Garcia announced that Commissioners Rachel Norton, Sandra Feuer, Norman Yee and Jill Wins were sworn in to four‑year terms at a Jan. 7 ceremony. The board then considered a motion to readopt its rules and procedures for the year; that motion passed by roll call as recorded.
Nominations for board president were opened. Commissioner Wins placed a nomination for Commissioner Kim Shremoff and moved to elect by acclamation; after a second the chair declared the nominee elected president for 2009. Nominations for vice president produced a nomination of Commissioner Jane Kim; the motion to elect by acclamation was moved and seconded and Commissioner Kim was declared vice president for the year.
These organizational actions were followed by brief congratulatory remarks and a short public‑comment opportunity specifically for those who wished to address the reorganization.
The readoption of rules and the consent calendar votes were recorded by roll call and are included in the official minutes.
