Board honors San Francisco Ballet, school bus drivers and accepts SFJACL curriculum supplement

The board commended the San Francisco Ballet for its Dance in Schools & Communities program — which works in 35 elementary schools and operates a free summer dance camp and the interactive 'Dance It' digital installation — and presented a certificate of appreciation to the company’s education leaders.
The board also adopted a commendation recognizing San Francisco school bus drivers. Speakers from the drivers’ union recounted incidents that demonstrated drivers’ roles in protecting students and noted the district’s long safety record. District staff and union leaders urged continued support for transportation staff and for evaluating additional on‑bus safety supports such as bus aides.
Finally, the board accepted a teacher resource guide from the San Francisco Japanese American Citizens League (SFJACL), the 'Journey to Gold Mountain: The Asian American Experience' guide, as a supplemental resource for the district’s history and social‑studies curriculum. Curriculum committee members and SFJACL representatives said the guide fills gaps in textbook coverage and will be distributed to teachers and school libraries; the board commended the long partnership with SFJACL and approved the supplemental adoption.
