Parents, teachers and community advocates asked the Board of Education to provide a temporary bungalow at Guadalupe Elementary to preserve the school’s computer lab and accommodate overenrollment next year.
Terry Factora, speaking for Guadalupe parents and teachers, said the school is overenrolled and that the computer lab should not be dismantled. "Our kids need their computer lab to prepare them for their future," Factora said. Parent Maria Frias described the strain on families trying to attend repeated board meetings and urged the district to act.
Sandra Feuill of Coleman Advocates warned the board against restructuring pupil services without involving community‑based organizations and urged inclusive planning for students who depend on those services.
Commissioner Norman Yee asked staff to bring back information showing a feasible plan and reasonable timeframe to install a bungalow; legal counsel cautioned about Brown Act limits on directives during public comment, and the board agreed to have staff return with options through the appropriate facilities and budget committees for consideration.
The district's Buildings & Grounds and Budget committees were identified as venues for follow-up; staff said the committee will schedule an update before the end of the month.
