Board approves Civic Center Secondary School name for John Swett campus programs

Susan Caballero read the superintendent's proposal (71-9 SP6) explaining the change, saying the name recognizes that "Civic Center is the center of government and arts for San Francisco" and that the campus will retain the John Swett name while the programs will be identified as Civic Center Secondary School.
Board members had no public speaker cards on the item and moved directly to a roll call, which recorded ayes from the voting members and the board announced the action as unanimous.
The boardaction formalizes the naming preference recommended by the buildings and grounds committee and is intended to reflect the multi-program makeup of the site and its ties to the Civic Center neighborhood. No amendments or conditions were recorded at the meeting. The board did not identify an effective implementation date beyond the approval.
