The San Francisco Unified School District on March 13 granted a renewal to Envision Schools for the charter of Metropolitan Arts and Technology High School, extending the charter from July 1, 2007, through June 30, 2012.
An equity office representative read an amended resolution and summarized committee findings, saying staff reviewers had their questions addressed by Envision staff. "Any of the comments that the staff had or recommendations were resolved by Envision School staff and the Metro School staff to the satisfaction of the staff reviewers," the equity office stated while reading the recommendation.
The renewal carries a condition that the Envision School negotiate and execute in good faith an annual memorandum of understanding with the district prior to each school year and abide by all applicable local, state and federal laws. District staff said the petition had been reviewed by curriculum, budget and buildings-and-grounds committees and forwarded with positive recommendations.
Board members offered congratulations and no substantive objections were raised during the public record. The board approved the renewal by roll call.
Next steps: District staff will work with Envision Schools to negotiate the annual MOU and will submit final paperwork and demographic highlights as part of the charter renewal implementation.
