Wallenberg High School students and alumni urged the board to reinstate an academic counselor who had been removed from the school. Students described the counselor as a central mentor and college adviser and said his absence since Nov. 1 has made college counseling and extracurricular support difficult. “This counselor has gone above and beyond for us,” a Wallenberg student told the board.
Families and staff from Gloria R. Davis Academy pressed the board for firm decisions about high‑school placement under the district’s Dream Schools planning. Superintendent Chan said staff had distributed enrollment packets and surveys and would tally official enrollment forms; she asked families to submit completed placement paperwork so staff could finalize a recommendation.
Many public commenters who spoke earlier during the Prop H discussion reiterated requests for funding for violence prevention, peer resources and translation services, arguing that those services keep students safe and enable parental participation in the district.
The superintendent and board agreed to follow up with staff to provide information on counselor staffing, enrollment counts and next procedural steps.
