The San Francisco Arts Commission's Community Investments Committee reported recommendations to fund 10 special project grants totaling $564,500 and to approve three cultural-center grant amendments totaling $589,500. The committee's recommendations were placed on the commission's consent calendar and were approved unanimously.
Committee Chair Janine Shiota told commissioners the special project grants are funded by district supervisors and mayoral enhancements. The cultural-center amendments include $139,500 to the African American Art & Culture Complex, $150,000 to the Mission Cultural Center for relocation-related expenses while its building is renovated, and $300,000 to SOMArts to pass through to the American Indian Cultural Center for office and space renovations.
The committee also recommended an extension for the Ebony McKinney Community Stewards grant to complete the project by Dec. 2024. Director of Community Investments Denise Pate reported that deadlines for community-investment grant categories have closed and staff are preparing for panel review season beginning in January.
The recommendations were approved as part of the consent calendar; commissioners raised no public comments during the vote.
