The Planning Commission voted to continue item 15 — a set of cases for properties including 1196 Columbus Avenue and addresses on Jones Street — after several nearby residents and tenant‑advocates urged additional community outreach and language‑access measures.
In‑person speakers who live adjacent to the property described a lack of door‑to‑door contact, concern about a proposed six‑story building that would cast shade on a daycare/play alley and nearby seniors, and difficulties receiving notices in languages other than English. Theresa Flandrick representing the North Beach Tenants Committee asked the commission to allow more time for direct dialogue with impacted residents; several residents described relying on mail or having difficulty interpreting mailed notices.
Commissioners expressed sympathy for the concerns and moved to continue item 15 to September 1 so the sponsor and supervisor’s office can coordinate additional outreach. The motion was seconded and passed unanimously. The commission placed the continued matters on the consent calendar for the September meeting.
