Doug Johnson, transportation planning manager, told the San Francisco Planning Commission on May 12 that the Southeast Rail Station study is revisiting options for restoring regional Caltrain service to the Bayview and adjacent neighborhoods. The study groups six candidate stations into three clusters and recommends advancing one station from the Bayview group and one from the northern Dogpatch/Potrero/Mission Bay group for further analysis.
The presentation focused on trade-offs among three Bayview locations. Johnson said Oakdale is the long-studied, community-preferred site with stronger transit connectivity, while an Evans Street option offers proximity to a new Southeast community facility but sits amid heavy production, distribution and repair (PDR) uses, truck traffic and sea-level rise exposure. A Williams location, staff said, would be below street level and face access and perception challenges and community opposition.
