Planning Commission keeps most continuances, sets appeal for 530 Sansom to July 8

The San Francisco Planning Commission on a mostly procedural day moved a set of agenda items to later hearings and set the appeal of the preliminary mitigated negative declaration for 530 Sansom Street for July 8.

Commissioners voted unanimously 5–0 to continue the slate of items proposed for continuance, preserving the department's scheduling plans for multiple conditional use and variance requests. When the commission took up Item 1 — the appeal for 530 Sansom Street — members were sharply divided over timing. A motion to continue that appeal one week to June 24 failed on a 2–3 vote, with Commissioners Tanner, Imperial and Moore opposed. Commissioners then adopted an alternate motion to continue the appeal to July 8; that motion passed 3–2. The chair clarified the July 8 continuance carries by a majority of commissioners present and that the separate, scheduled joint hearing with Recreation and Park that was planned for next week will need to be rescheduled as a result.

Public comment on the continuances included Ryan Patterson, counsel for the appellant on Item 1, who said the appellant received inadequate notice and requested a longer continuance to prepare; Benjamin Nick Roosevelt, counsel for the project sponsor, said the sponsor would accept a three‑week continuance. Planning staff explained that postponing the appeal affects coordinated entitlements and a joint Rec Park hearing and that scheduling alternatives may push some entitlement actions out until after summer recess.

The commission also unanimously adopted the draft minutes for its June 3 meeting.

What happens next: the appeal for 530 Sansom Street is scheduled for July 8 and the Planning Department will coordinate a new date for the joint entitlement hearing with Recreation and Park; other continued items will return on the dates indicated in the department’s continuance list.
