Susan Segee of Urban Land Development, the project sponsor, told commissioners the design emphasizes a human‑scale building and an enlarged public realm with a courtyard and micro‑retail suitable for neighborhood entrepreneurs. The sponsor committed to a community art program that will work with SoMa Pilipinas and local Filipino organizations to install artwork created in part from former gun‑buyback materials.
Staff and commissioners discussed infrastructure and any future Central SoMa fee the Board of Supervisors might adopt; staff said the motion would be implemented consistent with any such board actions. Commissioners expressed support for the project’s community benefits and the sponsor’s outreach.
The commission approved the project with the clarifying conditions proposed by staff. The project sponsor will proceed with the next permitting steps and will coordinate public‑art and neighborhood coordination as required by the approval.
