The Planning Commission voted unanimously to approve a staff‑led planning code cleanup ordinance that corrects typographical errors, updates outdated cross‑references and consolidates minor language changes across the code. Veronica Flores (Planning Department) said the changes are "non‑substantive" except for a clarification to Section 155(r) that extends protections against driveway curb cuts to major neighborhood commercial corridors that previously could be omitted by a narrow reading of the code.
Public commenters and the Better Streets community urged small technical fixes to avoid unintended exemptions for walking streets in Chinatown and the Wharf. Tom Radulovich, executive director of Livable City, recommended substituting the term "neighborhood commercial streets" with language that also protects "neighborhood commercial throughways" per the Better Streets plan; staff and commissioners accepted that compromise and incorporated the amendment. The commission directed staff to recommend the finalized cleanup ordinance to the Board of Supervisors for enactment.
The vote was unanimous; staff noted the planning commission only recommends code changes and the Board of Supervisors will consider and adopt if it agrees.
