The Planning Commission voted unanimously on Feb. 14 to approve a conditional use authorization allowing a wine‑and‑cheese bar, Aura, to operate at 1519 Polk Street in the Polk Gulch neighborhood.
Dory Ganetsos, department staff, described the project as occupying 1,380 square feet of an existing ground‑floor retail storefront and said the space has been vacant since mid‑2017. The department received two letters of neighborhood support and found the proposal consistent with the general plan and the neighborhood commercial district, Ganetsos said.
The project sponsor said she and her husband operate an existing Basque restaurant in Jackson Square and intend Aura to be a small, neighborhood wine bar. Neighbors spoke in favor at the hearing, and commissioners agreed the scale and location are appropriate. A motion to approve with conditions passed by roll call vote, 6–0.
Next steps: The applicant will finalize permit conditions through staff review and proceed to permit issuance.
